Ted Lare Design Build is a family owned and operated landscaping company located in the Des Moines metro area. The company was founded in 1982 by Ted, starting out as a one man show. Today the company has grown to over 70 employees, including six designers. In 2007 we built a fantastic new facility on 88 acres in Cumming, Iowa, located just ten minutes south of West Des Moines. Our new facilities include design offices, a retail garden center, dramatic outdoor displays, and a growing nursery. Full Time Nursery Care/Job Puller Position 2 – Ted Lare Design + Build

This would be a Full Time Seasonal Position working directly with the Plant Buyer. Starting is pay $16 but could be more depending on experience. Health Insurance and 401k will be available after initial employment period. Hours will be Wednesday –Saturday 8am to 4:30pm and Sundays 10am to 4pm. Weekend days are required. Weekly 35-40 hours per week. Start date of March 21st depending on weather.
Duties:
1 .Caring for nursery stock such as watering, pruning, weeding and keeping our high quality plants in top condition along with the grounds and areas containing our sold items.
2. Assisting in unloading and distributing plants to sold areas for landscaping jobs that are shipped in from our growers. 3. Assisting the plant buyer with assembling sold job orders and loading orders going out to job sites and entering daily hold tickets.
4. Other general nursery duties such as irrigation maintenance, assisting with harvesting balled and burlap trees from our field, landscaping bed maintenance on grounds and occasionally helping retail customers when necessary.
Skills and Requirements:
1. Nursery stock plant knowledge would be helpful such as knowing basic perennials, trees, shrubs and grasses but not required.
2. Ability to lift 50lbs 3. Ability to bend over repetitively to move and row plants.
4. Ability to take directions and work on your own.
5. A high level of attention to details
6. A great energetic attitude and a willingness to learn
7. Ability to drive a skid loader and a forklift. (not required – we can train you)

Qualified candidate will exclusively represent Bailey Nurseries Inc. Develop and maintain a strategic sales plan for territory, which includes increasing existing sales as well as developing additional sales. Maintain regular communication with current and potential customer base. Establish and maintain a travel itinerary well in advance of planned travel. Maintain weekly communication with sales manager to report progress, market conditions, performance obstacles, competition, etc. Maintain daily contact with inside sales contact. Maintain regular communication with credit department, inventory department, shipping, traffic, order entry and production. Represent Bailey Nurseries Inc at various trade shows, industry association meetings and events, etc. acting as a role model for the nursery and the industry. Participate in and contribute to state and regional trade associations where applicable. Handle customer requests and concerns promptly and within company guidelines. Control all expenses within company guidelines. Maintain proper and safe operation of company property including vehicle, computer, office equipment within company guidelines. Attend at least two national sales meetings per year, or as scheduled by sales managers. Stay abreast of new plant varieties, growing techniques, equipment, advances in horticulture, etc. Other duties as assigned.

  • BA/BS preferred; prior sales experience

  • Comprehensive knowledge of nursery trade, including growers, garden centers, landscapers, horticultural distribution centers,

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Due to a pending retirement, we are seeking a Director of Landscape Operations. The ideal candidate has a minimum of 5 years in the Landscape Construction industry as a division or operations manager. We will require a proven track record of standard operating procedures that created a better bottom line and team member retention. A continuous improvement mentality is helpful in securing the role. This position reports directly to the President. This position will be both in office and in field to help support our team members as well as the division.

The Director of Landscape Operations works in a coaching capacity with crew leaders and crew members to deliver excellent results to the customer. Responsibilities include direct ownership of the landscape department in all phases: preconstruction, under construction, close-out, and warranty. Work includes creating a leaner and more efficient department through training, use of profit and loss reports and other internal data.

Nursery Production Manager – Bentley Ridge Tree Farm & Nursery

Nursery Production Manager

Bentley Ridge Tree Farm & Nursery is looking for a motivated Nursery Production Manager who is in charge of the supervision and direction of all horticultural functions related to inventory for
the nursery; including: pruning, weeding, fertilization, irrigation, disease and pest control, and monitoring of general plant health. Our ideal candidate should have a passion for trees and the
processes involved in growing and establishing the highest level of nursery stock. This individual should also possess strong leadership skills and the ability to lead a team of up to 10 people. Good communication and problem-solving skills are a must.

Responsibilities and Duties

• This position reports directly to the Nursery Manager and is responsible for all of the plants and planting materials present at the farm.
• Planting, maintaining, and harvesting of all nursery stock, including but not limited to: planting bareroot stock, root pruning, irrigation maintenance, corrective and tip-pruning, fertilizing, insect and disease control, and the harvesting of sellable nursery stock.
• Use knowledge of plants and diseases to assist in corrective treatment and application of nursery stock.
• Coordinate with Retail and Wholesale Manager regarding future plant needs and different plant options.
• Injection System Maintenance – replacing acids and chemicals to keep water at the correct pH to sustain healthy plants.
• Developing and updating cost of plants charts to assist in the pricing of plant material.
• Analyzing future farm needs: forecasting staff and materials required to complete future jobs
• Work effectively and efficiently with specialized equipment, such as, but not limited to: Skid loaders, mini skid steers, tractors, mini excavators, articulating loaders and hand equipment.

The Right Candidate has

• Passion for creating and developing healthy trees
• Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or similar field (preferred, but not required)
• 2+ yrs experience in Nursery production or Horticultural management position (preferred, but not required)
• 1+ yr experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) (preferred, but not required)
• Pesticide Applicators License (preferred, but not required)
• Punctual, Reliable, Dependable
• Extreme attention to detail
• Knowledge of plants, funguses, insects, and diseases related to Iowa
• Knowledge of water injection systems and the testing associated with water
• Knowledge of irrigation systems
• Ability to run a crew of 10 or more
• Ability and desire to work in all weather conditions
• Ability to stand and perform strenuous tasks for 8+ hours a day
• Capability of lifting 50+ pounds over extended periods of time
• Good communication skills
• Problem solver and critical thinker
• Knowledge of Commercial Pesticide Handler Employer (CPHE)
• Valid driver’s license
