Horticulturalist – City of Cedar Falls
The City of Cedar Falls is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Horticulturist. Current pay range is $21.936–35.646/hr., including full-time benefit package. Duties will include, but not be limited to, providing grounds maintenance; equipment operation; and tasks related to planning, participating, and overseeing the planting, conservation, and care of orderly and aesthetically pleasing parklands, city right of way, and public building landscaping. This individual will maintain time, materials, and equipment usage records; purchase plant material and supplies; coordinate contractors for landscape improvement projects; attend workshops and participate in the development of public programs, tours, and events; serve as a lead person to provide training and guidance to part-time and seasonal staff, and recruit and schedule volunteers. Evaluation and selection of equipment and tools, completing minor repairs, and reporting major repairs and providing responsible staff assistance to the Public Works & Parks Supervisor or management, snow removal activities, and performing other duties as assigned will also be involved.
Candidates must also possess the ability to: plan, coordinate and participate in all services and operations for the City’s tree maintenance program including planting, removing, trimming, operating aerial units, tree spades, chippers, chain saws, etc.; respond to emergencies including wind and snow events; and coordinate related assignments with other divisions, outside agencies, and the general public.
High school diploma, or equivalent, supplemented by training in landscaping and plant maintenance services and activities and two years of experience in landscaping, maintenance, construction and installation of plant materials. Individuals must also possess, or have the ability to obtain, an appropriate, valid driver’s license with good driving record; and a Class B Iowa Commercial Driver’s license (CDL) and an appropriate state pesticide applicator license, both within six months of employment. Post-offer, pre-employment physical/drug screen required for the selected candidate.
This position requires Civil Service testing for candidates meeting the above minimum qualifications. Candidates meeting the minimum qualifications will be invited to complete a job related questionnaire after a pool of qualified applicants is approved by the Civil Service Commission. Interviews will follow with selected candidates from the Civil Service certified list.

Full Time Nursery Care/Job Puller Position 2 – Ted Lare Design + Build
This would be a Full Time Seasonal Position working directly with the Plant Buyer. Starting is pay $16 but could be more depending on experience. Health Insurance and 401k will be available after initial employment period. Hours will be Wednesday –Saturday 8am to 4:30pm and Sundays 10am to 4pm. Weekend days are required. Weekly 35-40 hours per week. Start date of March 21st depending on weather.
Duties:
1 .Caring for nursery stock such as watering, pruning, weeding and keeping our high quality plants in top condition along with the grounds and areas containing our sold items.
2. Assisting in unloading and distributing plants to sold areas for landscaping jobs that are shipped in from our growers. 3. Assisting the plant buyer with assembling sold job orders and loading orders going out to job sites and entering daily hold tickets.
4. Other general nursery duties such as irrigation maintenance, assisting with harvesting balled and burlap trees from our field, landscaping bed maintenance on grounds and occasionally helping retail customers when necessary.
Skills and Requirements:
1. Nursery stock plant knowledge would be helpful such as knowing basic perennials, trees, shrubs and grasses but not required.
2. Ability to lift 50lbs 3. Ability to bend over repetitively to move and row plants.
4. Ability to take directions and work on your own.
5. A high level of attention to details
6. A great energetic attitude and a willingness to learn
7. Ability to drive a skid loader and a forklift. (not required – we can train you)

Bentley Ridge Tree Farm & Nursery is looking for a motivated Nursery Production Manager who is in charge of the supervision and direction of all horticultural functions related to inventory for
the nursery; including: pruning, weeding, fertilization, irrigation, disease and pest control, and monitoring of general plant health. Our ideal candidate should have a passion for trees and the

Responsibilities and Duties
• This position reports directly to the Nursery Manager and is responsible for all of the plants and planting materials present at the farm.
• Planting, maintaining, and harvesting of all nursery stock, including but not limited to: planting bareroot stock, root pruning, irrigation maintenance, corrective and tip-pruning, fertilizing, insect and disease control, and the harvesting of sellable nursery stock.
• Use knowledge of plants and diseases to assist in corrective treatment and application of nursery stock.
• Coordinate with Retail and Wholesale Manager regarding future plant needs and different plant options.
• Injection System Maintenance – replacing acids and chemicals to keep water at the correct pH to sustain healthy plants.
• Developing and updating cost of plants charts to assist in the pricing of plant material.
• Analyzing future farm needs: forecasting staff and materials required to complete future jobs
• Work effectively and efficiently with specialized equipment, such as, but not limited to: Skid loaders, mini skid steers, tractors, mini excavators, articulating loaders and hand equipment.
The Right Candidate has
• Passion for creating and developing healthy trees
• Bachelor’s Degree in Horticulture or similar field (preferred, but not required)
• 2+ yrs experience in Nursery production or Horticultural management position (preferred, but not required)
• 1+ yr experience with Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Outlook, Word) (preferred, but not required)
