Ted Lare Design+Build is looking for a motivated, energetic, assistant garden center manager! Ideal candidate should be a self-motivated, team player with management experience in garden center/nursery operations that has a passion for inspiring people to grow. We are looking for an individual who is customer service focused, extroverted and loves meeting new people. The ideal candidate will enjoy selling a product or service, motivating others to do the same, working hard and supporting others on their team. They will love a fast paced work environment and to get their hands dirty. They will also have a thorough knowledge of plants that grow in Iowa.

  • This position reports directly to the garden center manager and nursery manager. The main responsibility is to assist with sales operations, customer service and staff.
  • Assists with opening or closing and cashiering functions.
  • Use of point of sale software, cash register and credit card machine purchases for individual sales.
  • Help customers with plant or product selections, obtaining special requested materials, payments, loading and preparing products for delivery.
  • Identifies and rectifies customer complaints and service suggestions.
  • Answering phone calls and emails on general plant or product questions.
  • Assists with pricing of plants and hard goods and creating signage for products.
  • Assists with creating marketing, sales and promotions for the store to drive customer traffic.
  • Work with vendors for delivery schedules, credit, and returns.
General requirements
  • At least 2 years horticultural management experience.
  • Bachelor in horticulture preferred.
  • Someone who loves to inspire their team to grow and leads & manages well.
  • Strong time management and organizational skills.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must be fast paced on a computer and able to work Microsoft Office.
  • Ability to lift at least 50 lbs. and to work in an outdoor atmosphere regardless of the weather.
  • Flexible hours and ability to adapt to changing schedule, we are retail and weekends are a must.
  • Valid drivers license.
